Cover Wars ( 2 )

Okay so here is the paperback, and hardcover version of ASH by Malinda Lo. I'm not sure which I like the best. The paperback copy seems more fantasyish, and kind of seems like alice in wonderland. It has that sort of feel, but the hardcover, there is something haunting about it, and sad. Which do you like better? If you saw both in the store, which one are you attracted to most, and would buy?

----------------Hardcover-------------------------------Paperback-----------

In the wake of her father's death, Ash is left at the mercy of her cruel stepmother. Consumed with grief, her only joy comes by the light of the dying hearth fire, rereading the fairy tales her mother once told her. In her dreams, someday the fairies will steal her away, as they are said to do. When she meets the dark and dangerous fairy Sidhean, she believes that her wish may be granted.

The day that Ash meets Kaisa, the King's Huntress, her heart begins to change. Instead of chasing fairies, Ash learns to hunt with Kaisa. Though their friendship is as delicate as a new bloom, it reawakens Ash's capacity for love-and her desire to live. But Sidhean has already claimed Ash for his own, and she must make a choice between fairy tale dreams and true love.

Entrancing, empowering, and romantic, Ash is about the connection between life and love, and solitude and death, where transformation can come from even the deepest grief.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf - her wolf - is a haunting presence she can’t seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human -- until the cold makes him shift back again. Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears and the temperature drops, Sam must fight to stay human or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

REVIEW: I really liked the book, and how Grace tried so hard to keep Sam human. I thought the ending was alright, but there were some unanswered questions that bothered me. Also, it seemed as if all Grace thought about was "making out" with Sam. But other times she only cared about the wolves. Overall, it was a good book, and you should definately read it. No doubt about that. This is one of the books of the summer. x.

Open Eyes Surprise!

Well, I was walking with my friend in Chapters, just looking at the books I might want to read next, and I stumbled upon this lovely book I have been waiting for, for a very long time. Dark Visions by L.J. Smith. It isn't supposed to come out for another two weeks, but lucky me, I have it! I will try to finish up Shiver as soon as possible so that I can give a review to this book. So check it out soon, and come back. x.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Kaitlyn Fairchild has always felt like an outsider in her small hometown. Her haunting eyes and prophetic drawings have earned her a reputation as a witch. But Kait's not a witch: She's a psychic. Tired of being shunned, Kait accepts an invitation to attend the Zetes Institute, where she can have a fresh start and study with other psychic teens.

Learning to hone her abilities with four other gifted students, Kait discovers the intensity of her power -- and the joy of having true friends. But those friendships quickly become complicated when Kait finds herself torn between two irresistible guys. Rob is kind and athletic, and heals people with his good energy. Gabriel is aggressive and mysterious, a telepath concealing his true nature as a psychic vampire, feeding off of others' life energy. Together, Rob and Gabriel's opposing forces threaten the group's stability.

Then one of the experiments traps the five teens in a psychic link. A link that threatens their sanity and their lives. And Kaitlyn must decide whom to trust...and whom to love.

Cover Wars

Here we have the US vs. UK cover of Shiver. Personally, I love the UK version the best. It catches my eye, and I really like the red leaf that is red, and drips, dotting the I. It shows how the story is haunted and hopeful. Although, the US version shows the wolf, hiding in the "woods" and the blue indicated the cold weather, which Sam takes on as his wolf form, which cannot be stopped. What do you think about them? Which do you prefer?

Dark Gaurdian #3: Dark of The Moon by Rachel Hawthorne

I've loved him forever, but he can never be mine.
brittany is determined to prove herself to the Dark Guardians. And yet she's been keeping a devastating secret: She hasn't experienced any of the intense, early signs of change that mark a Dark Guardian's transformation. The only intense feelings she has are for Connor—and she's kept that a secret, too. But she knows she'll never truly have Connor's love if she's not a Shifter like him.
At the first full moon after her birthday, her greatest fear is realized: She doesn't transform. Brittany is so desperate to become a wolf that she'll go to extremes she never thought possible . . . and put all the Dark Guardians in incredible danger.

REVIEW: This story is about a seventeen year old girl, Brittany, who will have her first full moon transformation, which will indite her into the Dark Gaurdians; a group of Shifters who protect themselves, the forest, and campers. She had been training very hard, working for that moment her whole life, only she doesn't transform. Wondering what is wrong with her, she tries to find the truth, while helping to fight off Bio-Chrome. Lies may be brought into the open, as others will find the darkness, as well as love and death may be found. Overall, I loved the book. It was a short read, but very interesting. I would definately recommend for those hopeless romantics to read it. It was very well done. I am sort of upset that there are only three books unfortunately. The covers are also beautiful, and show the characters perfectly. x.

Thirst No. 1 by Christopher Pike

Alisa has been in control of her urges for the five thousand years she has been a vampire. She feeds but does not kill, and she lives her life on the fringe to maintain her secret. But when her creator returns to hunt her, she must break her own rules in order to survive.
Her quest leads her to Ray. He is the only person who can help her; he also has every reason to fear her. Alisa must get closer to him to ensure her immortality. But as she begins to fall in love with Ray, suddenly there is more at stake than her own life....

REVIEW: This story (stories) was/were about a young woman, Sita, about age 20, who was turned into a vampire by the first vampire himself. She talks about everything she goes through to keep her secret protected, finding love, and saving everyone else, including herself from psycopathic people who think they can play god. She meets new people, falls in love with new people, and tries to kill new people. It is a story of survival. Overall, this story was fascinating, and magnificently written. x.

Now she must destroy an even more potent - and irresistible - adversary, before the whole town succumbs to Sin's will. Only trouble is, she's in love with him.

REVIEW: Really enjoyed this book. The beginning was kind of slow and boring, but once it got to some real action, there was so much going on, I had to read it again. You could really connect with the characters in this story, and they didn't seem fake, which is a plus. The author really had some great ideas for the book. Together, its amazing. You should read it. x.
